A range of baths including short and full length walk-in type baths with inward or outward opening doors. Many of these baths have multiple features such as integral seats, powered transfer seats and thermostatically controlled shower units.

The user accesses the bath either by stepping in, by using a powered transfer seat or via a hoist. The majority of these baths have an integral seat and some have a contoured base. The short baths tend to be used by independent users and the full-length or customised baths are more often used by individuals who require carer assistance and hoist access.

Informed advice is available from community occupational therapists (OT's) who are often based in the Social Services department of your local council.

When using a walk-in bath the bather must be able to manage a low step on entry and exit. Some walk-in baths have powered swivel seats which can assist the transfer. Square shaped walk-in baths often have limited leg room. Users may find them cramped and painful, especially if they have stiff or arthritic joints. If possible try sitting in a demonstration walk-in bath with the door closed, before deciding whether this equipment will suit your needs.
