Grab rails

Image of Grab rails

This section includes a range of different types of plastic and metal rails, angled and right-angled rails, suction rails, grab rails with non-standard features and wall-mounted rails that fit across the bath.

These rails are available in different lengths and diameters with a variety of wall-clearance measurements.

Help and advice

It is very important to consider the task you want to use the grab rail for. Is it to stand from sitting to standing from a bath or shower seat? Or for support while stepping into the bath? Is the wall strong enough to take the weight of a person pulling on a grab rail? Or is an alternative solution needed? Perhaps by strengthening the wall, using a different type of rail such as a bath fixed rail or using equipment to aid bath transfers.

It is recommended that a full assessment is made by a trusted assessor or occupational therapist to ensure grab rails are used safely or to determine whether an alternative solution is required. Click this link to read more on occupational therapy and how to obtain an assessment.
