This section lists a range of wall-mounted seats that are either fixed in position or hinge up against the wall when not in use. They can be used independently or with carer assistance.
Subsections listing wall-mounted seats for heavy duty or bariatric use are included as are shower stretchers and benches.
Hinged shower seats or fixed shower seats are attached to a frame which fixes to the wall with brackets. Some models have additional legs which rest on the shower floor / cubicle. These legs are particularly important if the wall is not strong enough to support the chair on its own. Some models are adjustable in height, this can be useful for multiple users. As the user does not usually have shoes on in the shower the seat height is lower than standard sitting chair height. The position of the seat or bench must be with-in reach of the shower unit and controls especially if a person has one-sided weakness or requires carer assistance.
Shower seats in this section take users weighing up to 127kg/20st inclusive but this will depend on the strength of the wall.
When considering bathing equipment an individual assessment with an occupational therapist may be appropriate, your safety in your bathroom is very important. There may be individual factors which determine which bathing equipment best suits your needs, the information on this site is not a substitute for individual assessment.
