These high beds have an uncompressed mattress height of not less than 50cm from the floor, or 40cm from the mattress platform to the floor. Height adjustment may be an option on some models.
A major difficulty encountered by some people when getting out of bed is standing up. Raising the height of the bed (e.g with bed raisers), or having an extra high bed sometimes helps. Placing one mattress on top of another to make the bed higher is not advisable as it makes a less stable surface.
If you are having difficulty getting on or off your bed, we recommend you arrange an assessment with an occupational therapist. It is important that you have an individual assessment as there are many factors which may affect what is appropriate for you.
