Increasing the amount of light on a book will help make it easier to see and less tiring to read. Adjustable task lights should be placed with the light shining directly onto the task and positioned below eye level. A task light 60cm from a book will give you 25 times more light than a ceiling mounted light that is 3 metres away.1
Most reading lights are supplied with small fluorescent bulbs that are relatively cool when in use. However, some reading lights are fitted with tungsten halogen bulbs which can become very hot.1
