These beds have a two-section mattress platform. This means only the angle of the head section can be manually or electrically adjusted to enable a sit up position.
A hinged mattress should be used with a two section bed to maximise the profile and avoid damage to a standard mattress.
Since these beds do not angle under the knees to form a knee-break, the user will sit with their legs extended. This can result in the person sliding down the bed unless a footboard is used. Such a movement may increase the risk of pressure ulcers developing.
