Small handling equipment enables a person to transfer from one place to another, either with or without assistance. For example, from bed to wheelchair.
The provision of small handling equipment should always be individually assessed and training provided by a physiotherapist or an occupational therapist as there remains a risk of injury to the user and the carer even when using equipment.
All small handling equipment requires the co-operation of the user for safety. Alternative equipment should be considered if the person may not co-operate.
