Water mattresses have a fluid interior and may have a foam perimeter to help provide stability. The fluid can be cold to lie on so they can therefore reduce skin temperature.
Water mattresses are heavier to move than conventional mattresses.
They may not provide a stable base, even when compartmentalised. Users may therefore need to consider their method of transfer and using a hoist may be required.
