Chair shaped bean bag style seating.

This can provide an alternative type of seating for relaxing and with suitable frames it can be at a normal sitting height and provide more support which would make it easier to carry out activities.

Help and advice

This type of furniture can be comtemporary and fun. It provides a more informal option perhaps for a few hours as an alternative to more supportive seating. With a suitable frame, it combines postural seating with the flexibility of a bean bag.

For a person with spinal deformities or contractures this would not be recommended for long periods of time but this equipment could be part of a combination of types of seating used within a day.

When considering a chair an individual assessment with an occupational therapist or physiotherapist may be appropriate. These chairs are usually demonstrated from the specific company and OT or physiotherapist may be able to attend the visit. Your safety is important and there may be individual and environmental factors which determine which chair best suits your needs in the short and longer term. The information on this site is not a substitute for individual assessment.
