For those who require assistance with standing from a chair, the Lifting Cushion will inflate beneath you at the touch of a button to gently lift you to a raised seated position from which you can stand easily. The Lifting Cushion is operated by low air pressure using the Airflo power source. The inflatable Lifting Cushion can be used on any chair with armrests, allowing you to keep your current furniture and providing a cost-effective alternative to a riser chair. It can be used on its own, or can be placed underneath a normal cushion as required. When not in use, the Lifting Cushion folds up discretely to tidy away but can then be ready to use again in seconds. Weighing less that 1kg, it is ideal for people to take with them to use when visiting friends and family, or going away on holiday.
These powered riser cushions are placed on a chair seat and will add to the overall seat height if the existing cushion is not removed. They must only be used on a chair with armrests and a solid and stable seat base. The insert cushion should be of equivalent size to the chair seat to prevent excessive movement. The fit of the riser cushion to the chair is particularly important for powered riser cushions as many of these models are quite deep so they may not suit a shorter seat depth. Your chair requires armrests which are high enough to support you as you rise from the chair with the riser cushion in place.
One advantage of powered riser cushions compared to manual riser cushions is that powered models do not require setting to your weight. However, your weight does need to be within the maximum weight capacity of the model. Another advantage is that you can stop the raising or lowering action of the cushion at any point/position.
Riser cushions are portable and could therefore be useful for short term use on trips and holidays.
Care should be taken to ensure the chair does not slip when the riser cushion is used. It is advisable to position the chair with its back to the wall.
