These chairs are wooden chairs suitable for people with smaller stature. The range will include chairs below 400mm depth and below 400mm height. The width of the seats may vary as some people with shorter leg length may still require a wider than 400mm width seat.
Many of these chairs will be made to measure.
View references and sources of further information ›Measurement for these small or narrow seats is essential to ensure the width, depth and height are functional for a person. These chairs are likely to be most suited for people with restricted growth or short people who may have reduced in height due to osteoporotic changes but be aware of the overall proportions, seat to floor height and height of the headrest (if relevant).
For further information see Essential measurements for a new chair.
When considering a chair particularly of this type an individual assessment with an Occupational therapist or by a Physiotherapist is very important. Your safety is important and there may be individual and environmental factors which determine which chair best suits your needs in the short and longer term. There may be pressure care needs also. The information on this site is not a substitute for individual assessment.
For other types of chairs see riser and recliner chairs or one of the support and positioning chairs.
