Help and advice

Eating systems are highly specialised pieces of equipment, and should only be used after an assessment and recommendation by a speech and language therapist or occupational therapist trained in their use. These systems should always be used with a carer or family member nearby due to the possible risk of choking.2

Weighted cuffs could also be used when eating or drinking if your tremor is making this difficult2.

Studies have shown that strategies such as...

  • supporting your trunk against a table
  • placing your elbow on a table top
  • wearing a wrist splint
  • placing your other hand over your other hand...

... can be just as effective as equipment or used in combination with equipment when managing tremor3.
