  • alternative methods of heating up water;
  • lightweight kettles;
  • tippers which support a kettle or teapot when pouring;
  • liquid level indicators which indicate when a cup or mug is full;

We also list a range of vacuum flasks and insulated tea and coffee pots for keeping food and drinks hot.

These products may reduce some of the difficulties and risks when using hot water, lifting kettles and teapots and carrying hot drinks.

Ricability is an independent consumer research charity providing free, practical and unbiased reports for older and disabled people. They have published a guide on buying an electric kettle including advice on jug kettles and traditional styles of kettles.1

The Good Housekeeping Institute (GH) have produced a report with useful information on the weight, noise level and other good points and drawbacks of both kettles and hot cup water machines which may be relevant to older people, people with a range of disabilities and/or sight loss.2 Good Housekeeping's report on kettles
