Lawn cutting equipment and accessories

Image of Lawn cutting equipment and accessories

This section includes a range of equipment for use in mowing and lawn maintenance. It includes robotic mowers, lawn edging and pickup equipment which may be useful for people with the use of one hand only, reduced strength or sight loss. Much of this equipment collects lawn clippings or creates mulch which limits the need to bend and pick up the waste.

Generally on the high street there are three main types of lawnmowers (all available as electric or petrol powered versions) :

  1. Cylinder mowers (can also be hand pushed)
  2. Wheeled rotary lawnmowers
  3. Hover rotary lawnmowers.1

Wheeled rotary lawnmowers are the most popular for general use.

Help and advice

One very useful feature on a lawnmower is a long switch (which is a bar that runs the width of the handle or a double switch which allows you to use both hands). This will reduce wrist strain and is helpful for left hand use.1 Consider the weight of the mower if you are carrying it or how you are going to transport it. Think about the general maintenance required to keep the equipment in good working order. A simplified lawn design will help.2
