Class 2 scooters & buggies

Class 2 scooters and buggies are ideal for use on pavements with a maximum speed of 4 mph.

Class 2 scooters are not obliged to have lights fitted on them by law, as they are not meant for use on the road. However, it may be advisable to get some fitted if you are planning to take your scooter out in the evening. Most models are not intended to climb kerbs and may include accessories such as shopping baskets.

Included in this section are three or four wheeled scooters and buggies. Some are heavy duty, have an interchangeable front section or have a fold down tiller to minimise the storage space required when not in use.

Scooters and buggies look similar, the main difference being that scooters dismantle while buggies do not.

Many Disabled Living Centres around the country have a range of mobility scooters or buggies that you can try, and some of the manufacturers or suppliers offer a home demonstration service, so that you can make sure that your choice is right. This is particularly useful if you plan to use your scooter indoors.
