Tripod and quadrupod walking sticks have either a three or four-point base. They are free standing and offer you support that is more stable than a standard walking stick.1
Tripod and quadrupod walking sticks may be suitable if you require more support and security when out and about. The broad bases provide more support, and some of the necks and handles are designed to help reduce strain on your wrist. Several of these tripod and quadrupod walking sticks are also height adjustable.1
They can be held in your left or right hand via a hand grip, or have a crutch style cuff and hand grip.
The width of the base varies between models. Straight and swan necked shafts are available. A swan neck shaft helps to distribute your weight more centrally over the base.
Assessment by a physiotherapist will help to ensure that your walking equipment is suited to your needs, and is set at the correct height for use.
