These bath lifts have an alarm button built in to their hand controller. This alarm button works in a similar way to a personal alarm button / pendant allowing the user to trigger an alarm which goes through to a call centre. It may provide reassurance to a user worried about their safety in the bathroom. This is an optional feature of these bath lifts and requires a compatible telecare system installed in the users home.
Individuals using a bath lift still need to be able to lift their legs over the bath rims (whilst seated) if they wish to bathe independently.
Bath lifts can be removed to allow another member of the household to use the bath. However, their weight and rubber suction pads can make them difficult to remove from the bath. Some models have detachable components making them lighter and safer to remove.
All of the bath lifts currently available with an alarm button are motor driven and usually powered by a rechargeable battery located behind the backrest or in the handset. This must be removed and recharged regularly. Some bath lifts have the option of a reclining mechanism to give a more relaxing bath.
