Bath steps may assist a person when transferring into the bath. They may be used on their own with a standard bath, or used in combination with other types of bath equipment.
Some bath steps have a supporting handle to assist when using the step. Modular models are available which give a selection of height settings.
Bath steps can be very useful if the bath rim is particularly high and/or the user is of short stature. Bath steps can assist a bather to continue to step into the bath in the traditional way.
It is important to consider if the bathroom is large enough for the bath step to stay in situ or whether it needs to be removed after use. If it needs removing: is the user able to safely bend down to pick it up and is there space to store it? Will the bath step be a trip hazard? There may need to be a risk assessment involving the user and their carers. Click this link to read more advice on bath steps.
When considering bathing equipment, an individual assessment with an occupational therapist may be appropriate as your safety in your bathroom is very important. There may also be individual factors which determine which bathing equipment best suits your needs. The information on this site is not a substitute for individual assessment.
