Bed pans are shallow pans which are placed under a person who is confined to bed to collect faeces and urine. They may be plastic, metal or disposable. Most have an integral handle, some have a lid.
Bed pans may be used by people who are being nursed in bed and who cannot, or should not for medical reasons, be moved out of bed. Many bedpans require the user to be able to bridge (lift their bottom) so that the pan can be slid underneath their body.
