Powered bath lifts
The powered bath lifts included in this section are the motorised type of powered bath lifts. Motor-driven bath lifts can be operated either by the user for independent bathing; or by a carer to make the task of assisting a bather safer, reducing the risk of back injury.
Band bath lifts, inflatable bath lifts and bath lifts with bellows are also powered bath lifts and are included under separate headings in this bath lift section.

Help and advice
Users must be able to sit and turn whilst lifting their legs over the bath rims if they wish to bathe independently. Turning whilst sat on the chair may be easier when using an optional swivel seat unit accessory, available with several of these bath lifts.
Bath lifts can be removed to allow another member of the household to use the bath. However, their weight and rubber suction pads can make them difficult to remove from the bath. Some models have detachable components making it lighter and safer to remove.
When considering bathing equipment an individual assessment with an occupational therapist may be appropriate, as your safety in your bathroom is very important. We recommend trying a bath lift before purchase, either via a home demonstration, an assessment by an Occupational Therapist and/or visiting an Equipment Demonstration Centre like the Disabled Living Foundation or an Assist UK centre.
