This section links to two types of equipment: Shower equipment to provide a stable seated or lying position while being showered and equipment that helps users to move in and out of the showering area.
Information on general types of hoists is not included.
Individuals can use a shower standing, sitting or lying assuming there is sufficient space available for the equipment to be used and for access to the shower area. If carer assistance is required then this may also affect the equipment or space required.
Seating is an option for the shower to conserve energy while showering and to improve comfort and safety. This could be achieved by using free-standing seating, wall-mounted or mobile shower seating. Wheelchair users may choose to use side transfers onto shower seating or use a mobile shower chair.
