Image of Wall-mounted rails that fit across bath

These wall-mounted rails fit behind the taps of the bath and rest on the bath rims. They can be folded up against the wall when not in use.

They can be helpful to give confidence to people getting in and out of the bath.

Help and advice

Cross rails are wall-mounted behind the taps and rest on the bath rims. Sometimes these rails are used as an alternative to grab rails if there is a problem with fixing grab rails on the wall behind the bath or there is no wall behind the long side of the bath.

Care must be taken to ensure that the fixing mechanism, usually a screw system, remains secure. This will need to be checked on a regular basis and tightened if necessary. Ensure that the wall is strong enough to take the weight of this type of rail.

These rails may provide confidence for a person getting in and out of the bath. However they cannot be used to pull up from the base of the bath. If a person requires this type of support, it is best to choose alternative grab rails or bathing equipment.
