Help and advice

Wall-mounted washbasins are more flexible than pedestal-mounted basins as they can be installed at an appropriate height for the wheelchair user or person using a perching stool. Also consider the needs of other household members or visitors.

When choosing the design of the wash basin consider the space available in the bathroom area and the use of the basin. For example, will it be used mainly to just wash hands? Or is it to wash, shave and apply make-up? If it is the second option, then you may require a larger capacity sink and storage for toiletries etc.

Care should be taken if the main user has reduced sensation in their lower limbs as exposed hot water pipes can cause damage to skin. Appropriate addition of insulation can solve this problem.

An adjustable height basin is an alternative to a wall-mounted basin which may provide a more adaptable long-term solution.
