Help and advice

Ensure that the brakes are on before sitting or standing from the commode, always re-apply the brakes after moving the commode. These shower chairs are only suitable for short transfers, not designed for transfering/propelling someone around the home or for sitting in for long periods. They are not a substitute for a wheelchair or a suitable chair.

These multi-functional chairs can reduce the amount of equipment and space required in the bathroom and can reduce the number of transfers required, especially for wheelchair users. However, the self-propelling models with large rear wheels require a larger turning space.

The measurements of these chairs are very important to ensure the neccessary support and comfort and the fit within the environment. If you are planning to use these chairs over the toilet check the measurements of the toilet and the chair, contacting the supplier or manufacturer if required. Read more on shower chairs

An individual assessment with an occupational therapist may be appropriate, as your safety in your bathroom is very important. We recommend trying these chairs before purchase either via home demonstration, or by visiting an Equipment Demonstration Centre. Assist UK

maintain a list of Equipment Demonstration centres.
