Included in this section are a range of eating or feeding systems. These systems are designed for people with minimal hand or arm movement, or who have limited control over their movements.1 These systems may allow you to feed yourself when adapted cutlery or crockery is not suitable.
These systems deliver food to your mouth via, for example, a rotating plate and a manually or electrically operated spoon.1 Some of these systems are powered, others are manually operated via hand or foot controls.1
Mobile arm supports and stabilisers are also included in this section.
Eating systems are highly specialised pieces of equipment, and should only be used after an assessment and recommendation by a speech and language therapist or occupational therapist trained in their use. These systems should always be used with a carer or family member nearby due to the possible risk of choking.1
