Help and advice

Before purchasing a mattress or mattress overlay, advice should always be sought from a health care professional. Pressure reducing mattresses may be supplied by a community nurse. He/she can usually be contacted through the local health authority or referrals can be made by a range of health professionals including doctors, other nurses and therapists.

Furthermore, where possible: before you buy it - try it out.

Check whether the mattress and/or the cover are washable and if they can be disinfected if necessary. Some covers can be wiped clean, thus avoiding the need to launder the contents.
