This equipment automatically turns a light on when movement is detected, a door is opened, at dusk or at preset times.
This equipment ranges from small simple units that plug into an electric socket and light a small bulb when movement is detected to units that can switch on overhead lighting and light a whole room. If you need good lighting along a hall or throughout a large room make sure you have sufficient lights turning on- either a main light or several of the smaller plug in lights.
Many of the products listed will not work on their own but only in conjunction with another product, which will also be listed on these pages. For example, any movement detector or door contact switch will only work when used with a compatible ceiling module, bulb holder or socket adaptor. For more information read the individual product descriptions. Products titled 'kit' should contain both the switch / remote and the ceiling module or adaptor.
Energy efficient bulbs cost less to run and help reduce carbon emissions which contribute to global warming. However, energy efficient bulbs take a few minutes to reach their full brightness. Thus it may be a good idea to stick with traditional bulbs on your stairs so you can rely on receiving adequate light as soon as you switch your light/s on.
If any rewiring is required this should be completed by a competent qualified electrician. To search for electricians in your area with the required certification (Part P Certification) visit the competent person register
