Eating systems

Eating systems

Eating or feeding systems are for children who are unable to use adapted cutlery, perhaps due to an upper limb weakness or lack of motor control. They provide a high level of assistance to help children feed themselves independently.

These systems deliver food to the child's mouth via, for example, a rotating plate and a controlled spoon. Some systems are powered and operated through switches. Others are hand operated.

This section also includes powered mobile arm supports. These support the child's forearm in a trough-shaped device that tilts to bring the hand both up and down. Some also move horizontally.
