Tactile blocks & tiles

Tactile blocks & tiles

Tactile blocks and tiles (also known as tactile discs) are available in a range of shapes, colours and textures which children can explore and compare.

They can be used for developing recognition skills, tactile perception (discriminating between different textures), increasing hand-eye coordination and encouraging children's communication and interaction.

Children can use them with their hands or bare feet. Alternatively, some are designed for children to crawl on, whilst others allow wheelchair access. Many have slip-resistant bases.

Examples of the textures of the blocks and tiles include fur, rubber, cork, felt, gel and sandpaper.
