Colour detectors can be used by blind people, or those with little colour perception, to distinguish colours. This may assist you to identify the colour of clothing or furnishings, distinguish between items such as food or check the ripeness of fruit. Some colour detectors can also work as light probes to tell you how light or dark it is, whether lights have been left on or the status of LEDs and other indicator lights on appliances.
