Our values

Living made easy and AskSARA have been developed by national charity the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF), an organisation with over 40 years' experience in providing impartial advice and information about daily living equipment.

Our mission

DLF is the UK’s leading source of expert information, advice and training on independent living for older or disabled people. Our mission is for every older or disabled person to have the impartial information and expert advice they need to make choices about their daily lives – and for front-line staff to be well trained and well informed.

Our core value: "Impartiality"

As a charity we exist to serve those who need our advice to make informed decisions about products that can help them. Our impartiality is central to everything we do.

We aim to provide comprehensive and independent information about all products on the UK market from all national suppliers, supported by expert advice created by our team of occupational therapists. As an impartial provider of information, it is free for suppliers to be listed on this website.

Our advice and information is:

  • Impartial
  • Independent
  • Trustworthy

To help guide consumers to reputable suppliers we provide more information on suppliers that meet certain standards. We also provide ratings for the quality of information we have on products as well as supplier standards.

Our sponsors

Certain ethical companies who support our aims have provided financial investment to develop and maintain Living made easy through major sponsorship. These sponsors obtain certain benefits from being a sponsor, for example, access to our training courses, an opportunity to exhibit at our annual conference and sponsorship within the website. We also offer other sponsorship opportunities to companies such as banner sponsorship. This sponsorship income helps provides the funds DLF needs to keep the advice and information in this website up-to-date.

All sponsored logos are clearly labelled with "Sponsorship" to distinguish them from our impartial advice.

Suppliers' sponsorship has no impact on the inclusion of products, how we rate their products, their position within any product listings or any other advantage over other suppliers.

Our sponsors are happy to support us in this way because they understand that it is our very impartiality that makes us of value to those who seek our advice.

Our staff

DLF staff work to agreed impartial procedures which govern how advice or products are added to our websites, and when the information is updated. Thus there is no scope for individual bias or preference in the updating or inclusion of product information.

The Information Standard

DLF is a founder member of the Information Standard, a certification scheme for health and social care information producers, supported by the Department of Health. The Information Standard has been set up to help the public identify trusted sources of health and social care information.
