Age UK

Local Age UK (previously Age Concern & Help the Aged) charities offer a wide range of activities and services. Dependent on the size of your local branch it may offer information and advice; activities outside the home; emotional and social support; and personal care. Search for your local Age UK branch.


AskSARA is the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF)'s free online self assessment tool. AskSARA will ask you questions about yourself and your environment and then offer relevant advice, product suggestions and supplier details. Visit AskSARA's clothes, shoes and dressing section.

Breast Cancer Care

Breast cancer care is a charity dedicated to providing information, advice and support to women who have breast cancer. They produce a range of booklets including information on prostheses and lingerie for women who have had breast surgery.

British Footwear Association

The British Footwear Association is the trade association representing UK suppliers of footwear. They have information available on suppliers of specialist footwear.

The British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA)

The BHTA is the UK's oldest and largest healthcare association. Its membership consists of some 350 companies (both large and small) from across the many non-pharmaceutical sectors of the healthcare industry. The BHTA is closely involved with developing industry and product standards, maintaining and improving on product choice, quality and, above all, safety. Of particular note is the BHTA's Code of Practice, which sets out the standards its members must meet and the work alongside this to identify best practice, eliminate "cowboy" behaviour and to ensure that member businesses are ones that members of the public can trust to give good service.

Clothing and footwear advisory service

The clothing and footwear advisory service at the Independent Living Centre in Exeter is run by an occupational therapist. They have printed information and are also able to help you over the phone, by email or in the centre if you make an appointment.

The College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section - Independent Practice (previously known as OTIP)

Colostomy Association

The Colostomy Association is a UK registered charity representing the interests of people with a colostomy. They have information on suppliers of underwear and swimwear designed for people with an ostomy bag.

Diabetes UK

Diabetes UK is the largest charity in the UK dedicated to the treatment and care of people with diabetes. They have information on how to care for your feet if you have diabetes, as well as advice on choosing footwear.

NHS Choices

NHS Choices has a section on foot health, with general information on foot care as well as advice related to conditions such as arthritis and diabetes. It also has information about what services are available through the NHS.

Raynaud's and Scleroderma Association

The Raynaud's and Scleroderma Association has information for people with Raynaud's or Scleroderma, as well as general information on keeping warm. They also sell a range of products including gloves and socks and heat packs.

The College of Podiatry

The College of Podiatry publishes information for the general public on choosing footwear, as well as general information on foot care.

The Society of Shoefitters

The Society of Shoefitters offers training on how to fit shoes correctly, to shoe shop assistants or owners. They also have information and advice on their website about foot care and choosing the right footwear.
